All Levels Muay Thai

At Jacksonville Muay Thai, All Levels classes teach a range of technical skills that are essential for beginners to learn and for advanced students to constantly review.

After a conditioning warm-up at the beginning of class, students cover stance and footwork, followed by basic types of movement. Instructors introduce techniques based on particular concepts.

The students drill techniques first without power in order to understand the body mechanics, either on each partner’s gloves or into thin air. Padwork and bagwork then help them learn to develop power based on those body mechanics.

Conditioning at the end of class concentrates on areas of the body that are most used in Muay Thai, finishing with cool down stretching. The emphasis on proper technique throughout class allows students to master skills more quickly, helps avoid injury, and even makes for a more challenging workout!

No gear? No problem! Wear loose-fitting gym and fitness attire and we’ll supply the rest of the equipment.

The Story of Muay Thai

Muay Thai is a martial art known as “The Art of Eight Limbs” from the use of hands, elbows, knees and kicks. It has been a part of Thai history and heritage for many centuries.

Originally developed for use on the battlefield, it quickly became a favorite form of entertainment during peacetime, as fighters from different villages challenged each other.

From the sport’s earliest times, Thai boxers emphasized a total commitment of mind, body and soul. This indomitable will to win is still evident in the stadiums of Thailand today.

In an article published from University of California Berkeley, concluded with empirical research that Muay Thai training can contributed to psychological well-being. This is supported through finding meaning or purpose in life; social relationships; and personal accomplishments.
